Florence Hayward

Trained in restoration and conservation of ceramics and glass with the late Nigel Williams fm the British Museum from 1990-1992.

In 2001 Florence spend 6 weeks in Japan during which she trained with Kumazaki Nobuyoki in his traditional Urushi workshop learning the art of making  laquered objects in the town of Takayama. This was followed by visits  to various Urushi crafts people from whom she learned the famous and very beautiful art of restoration of ceramics and glass with urushi and gold or silver which is still highly regarded and appreciated around the world.

Urushi renders the restoration impermeable to water thus allowing the object to be used. She keeps up to date by attending continual professional development courses parallel to running the  Conservation Studio from 1993 to present day.

She also led workshops dedicated to training of Museum staff in various

countries.
